- What does Kellia mean?

Kellion (plural kellia) is a Greek word meaning “cell”, a kind of little house.
In them live the ammas and abbas, protagonists of the game, in around the fourth century, chose to lead a solitary life in the desert.

- How was the game made?

The conception, the rules of the game, and the artwork were worked out by some of the brothers during the course of the year 2021. Several more brothers and young people visiting Taizé helped test the game. The game is manufactured by a company in the European Union.

- What is cooperative game?

Kellia is a cooperative game, rather than a competitive one. The players have to work together to try to face the challenges set by the game. They win all together or lose all together.

- Is it possible to play several times?

Of course! There are two versions of Kellia: an introductory version, to get to know the main rules, and a full version, which requires more strategy and which makes the game more varied, with different levels of difficulty.

Concerning the rules

- I already have 7 cubes, but I don't yet have a Water cube. Can I still collect a Water cube or beg one at the church?

No. To do that you need to make room, for example by giving a cube to another player, by placing a cube, or by discarding an Inner Life cube (which gives you 3 more actions).

- In the full version, sandstorms remover everything from one sector of the board: cubes, improvements, pathways... Do buildings have to be removed too?

Each building replaces a desert square and becomes totally integrated in the game. So building squares are mixed up with the other squares of the sector affected.

- In the full version, can I contemplate on a desert square where an Attention cube or a Work cube has been placed?

Yes, because this square has not yet been replaced: it is still a desert square.

- In the full version, after a sandstorm, an obstacle has appeared right in front of a kellion. Is it possible to avoid this?

This can be avoided by placing the new desert square in front of a kellion.
But when the throw of the die is a 6, it is possible to protect only one kellion in this way.
In that case, the players can think together about where it is best to place the desert square, according to the capacities of the players, the geography of the desert, the order in which they will play...

- In the full version, at the beginning of a game at the “difficult” level, a playing token for the calendar is placed on the Saturday square. What happens in the first round?

At the end of the first day, the players go to the church rather than to their kellia (like every Saturday evening).

Abba Sisoës frågade en av sina bröder:

– Jag slösar bort mina dagar.
– Även om det blir så att jag slösar bort en dag tackar jag i mina böner.

På 300-talet flyttar en handfull kvinnor och män ut i öknen i en isolerad del av Egypten. De söker efter det absoluta, och de bor i små hyddor (kellia) i utkanten av en by.

Men livet i öknen är långtifrån enkelt! Alla måste ta ansvar för sin överlevnad, acceptera riskerna på en ogästvänlig plats, odla marken och, framför allt, eftersom de blir de första kristna eremiterna, kämpa mot sina egna demoner.

De lever i ett spännande äventyr.

Kellia är ett strategispel som bygger på samarbete. Det är konstruerat och formgivet av bröderna i Taizékommuniteten med inspiration från ökenfädernas och ökenmödrarnas liv. Det kombinerar andlighet, ömsesidig hjälp och ekologi.

It covers the final preparations and the opening of the “Council of Youth”, an attempt to take seriously the desire for renewal of church and society of the younger generations and to orient it in a positive direction. Brother Roger also speaks of the life of the community and its many visitors, his personal spiritual journey, and the trips he took to different parts of the world, notably, at the end of 1976, to a poor neighborhood of Calcutta with an intercontinental team of young people.

Thầy Roger bước vào cuộc sống vĩnh hằng vào ngày 16 tháng 8 năm 2005. Cộng đoàn Taizé xuất bản những trang sách này để chứng thực lòng biết ơn vô hạn đối với món quà sự sống của người sáng lập. Cuốn sách này chỉ ra những trực giác chính yếu của Thầy Roger và cách thầy hiện thực hóa chúng trong hành trình lịch sử của cộng đoàn. This is the second volume of the personal journals of Brother Roger, the founder and first prior of the Taize Community. This volume covers the years from 1969 to 1972 and is centered on the genesis and first preparations of a “Council of Youth.” The project was inspired by the crisis in the Catholic Church in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, and the slowdown of ecumenism after the glowing hopes kindled in the wake of the Council. It was an attempt to take seriously the aspirations of the younger generation and orient them in a positive direction. Brother Roger also talks in these pages about the ongoing life of the community, his personal spiritual journey, and many important encounters that took place in those eventful years.

Krukmakeriet och dess sammanhang

Krukmakeriet i Taizé är helt integrerat i livet i den ekumeniska kommuniteten som består av ungefär 90 bröder från omkring 30 länder. Arbetet där är en del av ett större sammanhang, och det är förklaringen till ett antal praktiska val som har gjorts. Vi är inte i första hand konstnärer, oavsett om det handlar om design eller om att utföra konsthantverksarbete, utan bröder som lever ut ett andligt engagemang i solidaritet, i Taizé dit tusentals unga vuxna kommer eller på andra platser i världen.

Äventyret med keramiken började under vintern 1949, när ett krukmakeri byggdes i Taizé. Steg för steg utvecklades det med fokus på handdrejning och utveckling av glasyrer till stengods, baserade huvudsakligen på vegetabilisk aska.

Kommuniteten växte, och bröderna fortsatte att leva enbart på de inkomster de fick genom sitt arbete. De flesta av de bröder som arbetar med keramiken har dessutom någon annan arbetsuppgift. Därför används enkla arbetsmetoder, delvis mekaniska (med hjälpmedel som gipsformar, pressar och indrejningsmaskiner), och det som tillverkas är brukskeramik.

Två enkla metoder har bibehållits från det första krukmakeriet: tillverkningen av lera av råmaterial från lertag i trakten och framställningen av egna, karaktäristiska glasyrer.

En kort presentation

Leran som används för keramiken i Taizé "sintrar" (smälter samman och blir kompakt) när temperaturen i ugnen uppgår till 1280°C. Resultatet kallas stengods. Innan föremålen doppas i glasyr bränns de en första gång i 950° C (skröjbränns). Som bränsle i alla våra ugnar använder vi naturgas (metan).

Vissa saker (lampor, fåglar) tillverkas av ett slags porslinslera i en särskild gjutningsverkstad.

Glasyrer på stengods består av silikat som formas vid temperaturen 1280° C genom fusion av olika mineraler: fältspat, kaolin, kalk, kisel och talk. De kan ta olika färg om man tillsätter pigment av något slag, järnoxider som ger elfenbenfärgsfärgad, grön, svart eller brun glasyr, kobolt eller koppar som ger blå och violetta toner eller titanium som ger en gul-orange yta. Glasyrerna innehåller ibland aska som består av mineraler som växter tagit upp ut marken. Man kan själv tillverka sådan glasyr genom att blanda mineraler, vilket vi gör i flera glasyrer.

Vid den första bränningen av vår keramik samarbetar vi med några andra krukmakerier i trakten som ett tecken på solidaritet med dem; vi hinner inte heller göra allt på egen hand.

Våra vanligaste glasyrer

Gousseau (gul): en rekonstruktion av en glasyr som vi från början fick ur askan från olika träd som växer i en närbelägen skog, Gousseauskogen.

Omnia (grön sidenmatt): en glasyr som vi framställer genom att blanda olika glasyrer.

Blå: en blandning av mineraler som liknar askan från träden i Bresse med tillsats av koboltoxid.

Okoumé (blå-grå sidenmatt): en blandning av mineraler som liknar den aska vi i början fick genom att bränna överblivna bitar av ett exotiskt träslag som använts i en fabrik i närheten.

Temmoku (svart med rödbruna inslag): ett japanskt namn på en klassisk glasyr som innehåller järn och som började användas i Kina för mer än 1000 år sedan.

Bois de Bresse (vit blank): en blandning av mineraler som liknar den aska vi i början genom att bränna borthuggna häckkvistar från Bresse, en trakt nära Taizé.

Hasselnöt (ljusbrun halvmatt): en blandning av mineraler som liknar den aska vi i början fick genom att bränna hasselnötskal från Spanien.

Röd järn (rostbrun): en glasyr som innehåller järn och fosfor.

Gul: en glasyr som är rik på aluminium och som också innehåller titaniumoxid.

Lite praktisk information

Alla våra produkter tål diskmaskin och mikrovågsugn. De bör däremot inte ställas i en ugn som är mer än 200° varm.

På grund av risken för skador på godset har vi inte längre någon postorderförsäljning av keramik.

Skivan Taizé – Music of Unity and Peace är resultatet av ett samarbete som aldrig tidigare har förekommit — ett samarbete mellan kommuniteten och Deutsche Grammophon / Universal Music. De senare ställde upp med sin erfarenhet och sitt expertkunnande i produktionen av denna inspelnin. Kommuniteten tackade ja till detta eftersom det kan göra dess sånger kända för en större lyssnarskara. De som har varit med på de internationella mötena i Taizé kommer att känna igen atmosfären. Många andra får möjligheten att upptäcka en reflektion av kommunitetens kontemplativa bön.

Efter klockringningen, som Taizés besökare är bekanta med, leds vi in i sånger tolkade av en kör bestående av unga vuxna och musiker från olika länder, några inspelningar som gjordes under de gemensamma bönerna i juli 2014, och dessutom några psaltarpsalmer och responsorier som sjungs av enbart bröderna. Därför kommer du att på några spår höra mer än 2500 personer sjunga, medan andra ger en smak av den närhet som omger bönen i Taizé. Sången “Let all who are thirsty come” är för första gången med på en inspelning.

"Så många situationer i världen behöver fred och frid”, säger broder Alois, som är prior i Taizé, i skivhäftet. "Men freden måste födas i våra hjärtan. Fred betyder inte att vi alltid kommer att ha det lätt i livet, men den betyder att vi tror att freden är möjlig.”

Mark Wilkinson, VD för Deutsche Grammophon, är nöjd med inspelningen: "Den här musiken är speciell, den skapar känslor och berör människor, och den förtjänar att nå ut till en stor lyssnarskara. Musik kan vara ett förändringsverktyg och lösa upp hinder, och Taizésångerna är ett bevis för det.”
