2025 | Sharing and witnessing to the Orthodox faith

The fourth "week of sharing and witnessing to the Orthodox faith" will be held at Taizé from August 17 to 24, 2025.

Participants are invited to follow the usual program of the Taizé meetings with the times of prayer, Bible introductions followed by small-group sharing and practical tasks.

Orthodox liturgical celebrations

• Tuesday August 19, 6:30am : Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Transfiguration (Juian calendar), in the village church
• Friday August 22, 8:30pm: Divine Liturgy in the Church of Reconciliation

Sharing of the Orthodox faith

• Monday and Friday at 5:30pm: meeting between Orthodox Christians according to questions and interests

Witnessing to the Orthodox faith

• Tuesday August 19, 5:30pm. For the Feast of the Transfiguration: let the light of Christ heal our wounds. Testimony of Higumen Danilo (Pavlović) and Priestmonk Lazar of the Monastery of the Annunciation in Žitomislić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), destroyed in war and rebuilt for peace.

• Wednesday August 20, 5:30pm. Searching for the Christian Community. With Father Petro Lopatynskyi, lecturer at Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy, Ukraine.

• Friday August 22, 5:30pm. “Send your Spirit upon us and upon these gifts”: a short introduction to the Byzantine Liturgy. With Archimandrite Joan Lena, lecturer in Orthodox liturgical theology at the St Irenaeus Orthodox Theological Institute, the Netherlands.

• Saturday August 23, 3:15pm. Understanding icons, representations of the Incarnation and tokens of the Resurrection. With Elisabeth Hériard-Dubreuil, iconographer, theologian and author.

• Saturday August 23, 5:30pm. The Council of Nicaea 1700 years ago: What difference does it make for Christians today? With Norman Russell, Orthodox theologian, historian, and translator.

2025 | Reflection Week for 18-35 year olds

the next reflection week for 18-35 year-olds will be held at Taizé from 24 to 31 August 2025.

This reflection week is open for all those from 18-35 years old—students, young professionals, volunteers or those looking for work.

Because of this special program, we ask high-school students, adults over 35 and families to choose another week to come to Taizé.

Typical day

8:15am morning prayer with a reflection in the church, followed by breakfast
10:15am workshops or work
12:20pm midday prayer, then meal
3:00pm workshops or work
5:00pm snack
5:45pm small-group sharing
7:00pm meal
8:30pm evening prayer

Workshops by topic

This reflection week for 18-35 year-olds is characterized by a large variety of workshops on different topics, with guest speakers from different backgrounds.

Coming with 15-17 year-olds

You can bring young people under 18 to Taizé to take part in the meetings.

If you come with a group, read carefully the page “Bringing a group of young people”.

15 to 17 year olds can take part if they are authorized and accompanied (see below).

If they are under 15, they can only take part in the family program with their parents.

Glossary

Group leader: an adult who has the final responsibility for a group of young people and who coordinates all the other supervisors.

Contact person: an adult who is responsible for a small sharing-group, helping with the daily activities of this group and making sure all take part in the program. This person ensures the link between the different small groups and the person who gives the bible reflections.

Supervisor: an adult chosen by the group leader to help supervise the young people of the group day and night. For groups made up of boys and girls, male and female supervisors are necessary.

Legal guardian: an adult member of the group chosen by the parents and able to make decisions for the minor when necessary, primarily medical ones, that the young person cannot make alone.

N.B. The same person can have several functions. For example, a contact person can be a supervisor and a legal guardian.

Parental authorisation

Minors must bring with them a written authorization from their parents allowing them to take part in the youth meetings. This authorization must name a legal guardian and give him or her the ability to make medical decisions if necessary. The guardian must be able to be reached by a mobile phone You will find here the form that you can use. Please also check if the authorities of your country ask for an authorization to leave the country with minors.

Contact persons

For groups with young people 15 to 17 years old, there must be one contact person for every 10 youths (if possible people 20 to 35 years old or older). During a stay at Taizé the role of a contact person is to accompany a small sharing-group, helping with the daily activities of this group and making sure all take part in the program.

These small groups are formed on Monday or the day following their arrival. A small group is made up of about ten young people who have come with different groups. They meet in the morning and the afternoon. Each day the activities of the small groups will be explained by a brother or someone chosen by the community.

The contact persons should be registered with the 15-17 year-olds in the program for that age, even if they are over 35. They can give the same financial contribution as the young people.

Accommodation

In accordance with French regulations, we accommodate minors separately from adults. The group leader is responsible for this.

To ensure that young people behave appropriately and get a good night's sleep, the supervisors stay nearby.

These persons should be registered with the 15-17 year-olds in the program for that age, even if they are over 35. They can give the same financial contribution as the young people.

If a supervisor over 35 needs separate accommodations, please register him or her in the list of “adults” and note in the comments that he or she is a supervisor.

Safeguarding advice

The group leader who comes to Taizé with minors must ensure ahead of time that all those who accompany the minors in the group can do this work properly. Check the requirements in your country for those who are responsible for minors, follow them and bring the necessary documents with you to Taizé. You may be asked to show them at the welcome.

The group leader must ensure the presence of all the contact persons and the supervisors of the 15-17 year-old group during the explanatory meeting before the first bible introduction. You will be told when and where it will take place when you arrive. During this meeting important information will be given concerning safeguarding during the small-group animation.

Meals and Diets

Most meals at Taizé are vegetarian, and all lunches are vegan. On some evenings, a meat option is available.

Special diets

There is a special line next to Room 10 for anyone (including adults) who requires gluten-free, lactose-free, salt-free, or nut-free meals. Details of the menus prepared in the large kitchen are available at the Casa and at the diet distribution point

Please check if these menus suit you and, if not, sign up for the special diet meal immediately after morning prayer, until 9:15 a.m., next to room 10. The kitchen needs to know how many special meals to prepare.

Travel to Taizé individually

There are a number of different ways to reach Taizé from the UK by public transport:

Groups travelling to Taizé open for individuals to join

Coach

Usually the least expensive London to Taizé journey is to travel to Chalon-sur-Saône by coach. This usually involves an overnight journey. There are various services: https://www.blablacar.co.uk/, https://global.flixbus.com/, https://uk.megabus.com/ etc. (You may need to change in Lille or Paris).

Train

The most comfortable way to travel from London to Taizé is by Eurostar train from St Pancras. If the tickets are booked well in advance the price may not be too high, especially outside of the summer period. (Tip: Try booking tickets from London to Mâcon-Loché TGV all in one go on the SNCF site (English): https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/ )
The journey is:
1) Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris (arrive at “Gare du Nord”) ( 2¼ hours)
2) Cross Paris (by taxi or RER-metro line D) to the station “Gare de Lyon” ( 30 mins)
3) Paris (Gare de Lyon) to Mâcon-Loché (by TGV high-speed train) ( 1¾ hours)
4) Bus from Mâcon-Loché to Taizé (see timetable at the foot of the page By train and local bus), or see timetable for the service LR701 at https://www.viamobigo.fr/en/mobigo-...

Coach, then train

It is possible to travel by coach from many points in the UK directly to Paris. From there one can continue by train. There are various coach drop-off points in Paris, however, and Paris-Bercy is the most convenient one for travelling onwards to Taizé by train.

By train and local bus

If you are travelling from Paris, choose Mâcon-Loché TGV as your destination station (this is the nearest station to Taizé).
Note: Ticket prices on the fast (TGV) train vary a lot, depending on how far in advance they are bought. Slower trains which run from Paris-Bercy or Paris-Austerlitz to Mâcon-Ville will often be less expensive if you have left it late to book your ticket.

If you are travelling from Lyon, choose either Mâcon-Ville or Mâcon-Loché TGV as your destination station.

If you are travelling from Geneva, choose either Mâcon-Ville or Mâcon-Loché TGV (via Lyon Part-Dieu or Bourg-en-Bresse) as your destination station.

If you are travelling from Strasbourg, choose Chalon-sur-Saône as your destination station. (N.B. There are also some connections to Mâcon-Ville or Mâcon-Loché TGV via Paris.)

From Mâcon-Ville, Mâcon-Loché TGV and Chalon-sur-Saône stations there is a connecting bus to Taizé (see pdf timetable below). We suggest that you buy the ticket on the bus (on internet sites it is sometimes more expensive).
Not all trains are followed by a bus connection to Taizé (see the timetable below). If there is no bus, you will need to take a taxi or minbus, which is much more expensive than the bus. See Taxis and buses for hire locally.
You can find train times and buy tickets online on various sites. Many journeys are available as electronic tickets. Note that ticket prices are substantially lower if you buy them well in advance.

2025 | Week of reflection and sharing for health care workers and students

This week of reflection will be held at Taizé from August 31 to September 7 2025.

Purposes of the week:

- Listening to Christ and his word
- Sharing experiences with professionals from other countries
- Reflecting on and discussing ethical problems that concern the medical profession
- Discovering silence as a resource

Registration is open on the website. Please note on "participant's commentaries" that you are taking part in the week on reflection and sharing for health care workers. Please also indicate your profession and two or three questions you wish to share.

2025 | Group of volunteer couples

In 2025, the volunteer group formed by couples up to the age of 35 and without children will resume in the summer.

Daily life will consist, as for other volunteers, of participating in the three daily prayers, services related to the meetings and the common life of the group (meals, time for reflection and sharing, household chores). Accommodation will be simple, set apart, in one of the houses belonging to the meetings.

Being part of this group will mean, to:

□ commit, after a trial period, for 3 months (shorter stays are also possible in certain cases);
□ be open and available for the period of time spent in Taizé;
□ actively participate and enrich the common life of the group.

You can be accompanied by a person who will be there to listen to you personally and, if you feel the need, you will be able to spend a week in silence.

This group of volunteers will operate from June until September 2025.

The meetings in Taizé are financed by contributions from participants. Each person is invited to contribute according to their means. The contribution covers meals, accommodation and other expenses. It is not the same for everyone, but takes into account each person's possibilities and country of residence. A minimum and a maximum amount are proposed, so it is up to each person to choose what to give. Please read the page Financial contribution for information about how to calculate and make your contribution.

Young people from 15 to 24 years old

South Africa, Korea, HK, Taiwan, Macao: € 10.00 - 18.00 (Euros) per day. Packed meal for your journey: € 4.00

UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Finland and Scandinavia: € 12.00 - 20.00 (Euros) per day. Packed meal for your journey: € 4.00

Young adults from 25 to 35 years old

Young adults in this age bracket are invited to contribute according to the range for adults over 35, if their financial situation allows. If this is not the case, they can give the reduced contribution as younger people.

Adults aged 36 or over

South Africa, Korea, HK, Taiwan, Macao: € 20.00 - 36.00 using your own tent/caravan, or € 25.00 - 45.00 using our accommodation. Packed meal for your journey: € 4.00
Children aged 0 to 14 years old coming with their parents from all the above countries: € 5.00.

UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Finland and Scandinavia: € 24.00 - 40.00 using your own tent/caravan, or € 30.00 - 50.00 using our accommodation. Packed meal for your journey: € 4.00.
Children aged 0 to 14 years old coming with their parents from all the above countries: € 6.00.

Adults acting as leaders for young people (i.e. accommodated in the youth area and eating meals with them) may give their contribution at the young person's rate if they wish.
